Wilston Village on Kedron Brook Road has more than a good choice of restaurants.
Fitting happily into the mix is Café Conti run by Graham and Lin Penfold, taking up a prime corner position under shelter from a large tree.
The café offers indoor (air conditioned) and outdoor dining so there’s plenty of choice. And they are just as happy (almost) if you order a cup of coffee of a full meal.
We were there for a family catch up so the good acoustics were much appreciated. It’s hard to have a dinner conversation in some cafes but at Café Conti it’s no problem.
Our meal choices were -
Slow Braised Maple Pork Fillet served with potato, baby spinach, mustard aioli and sweet potato chips ($27.50)
Oven roasted, marinated lamb rump served on a fetta and garlic potato bake with sundried tomato and cashew pesto and a red pepper coulis ($28.50)
Spicy Macadamia Nut Crusted Snapper oven baked with steamed greens, rice and coconut sauce ($32.50)
I was hungry and my choice of the slow roasted pork provided just the fix I was looking for. The pork was well flavoured without too much trickery and I liked the crispy sweet potato ‘chips’ on top.
My companions enjoyed their meals as well and found the ample servings nicely filling.
With extreme restraint I refrained from ordering the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Coated Peanut Ice-Cream Pie served with marshmallow and chocolate sauce. That will have to wait for another day.
Bottom line: A comfortable choice for a suburban meal. The surroundings won’t overly excite you but the food will leave you satisfied.
