On a recent trip to Sydney for my cousin's wedding I decided to embark on a cupcake discovery session dragging V Diddy and Number 1 Son along too.
Staying at the Rocks, we took a stroll into town and discovered Ghermez in George Street.
It has all the requirements on my list for a top cupcake spot. Cute shop, cute cupcakes, good coffee and a comfortable seating area.
And the cupcakes didn't disappoint. The range was extensive with a choice between large $3.80 and mini cupcakes $2.20. The cupcakes come in 20 varieties of simple and exotic flavours with 12 varieties available each day. Ghermez have a chart which tells you what flavours are available each day.
We chose:
- Pistachio & Rose (rose water cake with white chocolate buttercream) - didn't really get the rose flavour in this but loved the texture of the cake.
- Rose Chocolate (dark chocolate cake with rose flavoured chocolate filling and chocolate ganache) - creamy with a full chocolate flavour and a bit of rose.
- Dulce de Leche (caramel cake, with a caramel (Dulce de Leche) layer on top) - very sweet with a rich caramel flavour
- Red Velvet (Red velvet chocolate cake with coconut cream cheese icing) - surprisingly, my least favourite of all four.

There are also shops at Bondi Junction and Alexandria in Sydney
