Five minutes of fame on The Great South East

Blink and you will probably miss it but you might be lucky and catch my five minutes of fame on The Great South East, 5.30pm Sunday night.

I'll be a legend in my own lunch box, as my brother would tell me, but it was a great experience walking around Eagle Street Pier with the lovely Laurel Edwards.

We managed to eat at three great eateries, Jude Cafe on the ground floor, Sake - the new stylish Japanese restaurant on the top floor and the Bavarian Bier Cafe, also on the top floor.

What did I learn about television filming - firstly, it's a lot harder than it looks! That nonchalant but interested look on a television presenters face comes from lots of practise at walking through shots and saying the same words over and over again just to get it right.  And five minutes of footage takes about three hours to film.

But it was a lot of fun and lovely to meet Laurel who is just as friendly and chatty off camera as she is on.  We bonded over a shared love of cupcakes and Hamptons style interiors. Look out Troy, there may be some redecorating in your future!

Our first stop was Jude Cafe where owners, brother and sister team, Rob and Jude Kelly served up some great food, all made on premise. The Moroccan Lamb Cigars and Thai Chicken Balls were big winners.

Then it was up to Sake where we indulged in some raw fish - yum! I'm a big fan of the clean flavours of Japanese food and they do it very well at Sake.  It's a must for anyone who is keen on this cuisine.

Next we popped next door for a spot of pure Bavarian bier and a taste of Wiener Schnitzel, a lovely thin piece of crumbed veal  and battered fish with great chippies on the side.  Apart from the fine food and wide choice of specially brewed ales, this place has fabulous views over the river.  It's a good spot both for Friday afternoon drinks with mates or a Sunday morning breakfast with the family.

A big thank you to Great South East for inviting me to be part of this segment.
