When is a grocery store more than a grocery store? Take a look inside Groceries @ Pinkeys on busy Zillman Street, Hendra and you'll have the answer in a snap.
Sure there's plenty to pick from in the grocery line, from fruit, veg and flowers to bottles of imported water, but it's the new coffee pop up that has locals talking.
Tucked down one side of the store, it looks like an old book store courtesy of some clever imported wall paper and a few well chosen pieces of antique furniture. There's even a shiny silver tea service and a delightful old blue tea set from which to sip your cup of tea.
Owner Gail Cowen says there's plenty of food to choose from in the cabinet and it's all made on site fresh daily. I tried the yogurt cake which had a real homemade look but is made for a small number of cafes. I have to say it was totally delicious with an almost mousse like texture. Gail says their brownies are another house special but there weren't any for me to try that day. The sandwiches certainly looked appealing as well.
The coffee is Merlo and well worth a trip. It also comes with two little bickies which is a noice touch.
Bottom line: Great for more than just groceries.
